AMD makes shitty processors. Thanks for telling me to get AMD instead of intel, fuckhead.

AMD has great processors, but only for specific things.

In Cinebench, a FX-8150 beats Sandy Bridge easily if you set core affinity settings right. It will make a huge difference.

Btw, the Cinebench test was made on Windows 7 and it isn't ready for Bulldozers. For really good performance try Windows 8 Dev or Linux (real Linux, not Ubuntu...)

Cinebench is an artificial workload. The fact an 8 "core" CPU loses almost every time to a 4 core/8 thread CPU like the 2600k is bad. These apps are pure multithreaded performance tests, and Bulldozer still can't win them. When the 2500k beats it, that just shows how AMD's core/module system is stupid. The Phenom II X6 is the only mainstream CPU with more than 4 complete cores, and it is often a better performer than Bulldozer. When you see benchmarks where the X6 is faster than a 2600k but barely any slower than a Bulldozer, is when you see how the Bulldozer's shared resources in the modules let it down.

Keep in mind you can push Sandy Bridge to 5ghz+ and keep it around 250W, while Bulldozer is pushing 3-400W in the mid 4ghz range.

Bulldozer is also 10 months newer than Sandy Bridge, and like 3 years newer than the Phenom II architecture.

Here's Cinebench

Single threaded. Bulldozer has very low IPC. Sandy Bridge's performance scales with frequency. Phenom II > Bulldozer in IPC. Not sure why the X6 is faster than the X4 despite a 300 mhz deficit. Should be basically the same core.

Multithreaded. Barely beats the X6. Obviously each core is less powerful than the X6's.

This is interesting. Older Cinebench, multithreaded. The 2500k winning is just sad, but notice how the FX-8150 is so much faster than the X6, when in new Cinebench, there's barely a gap, but both CPUs jump over the 2500k in the new version. Whatever improvements there were to multithreading in Cinebench 11.5, they benefited the X6 more. The 2600k jumped even farther ahead of Bulldozer in 11.5 (15% faster vs 12%), so the real vs virtual cores argument doesn't seem to fly.

AMD does everything I need it to do perfectly for less cost than Intel.  I've only had one Intel processor that didn't over-heat on me and it was my Core2Duo for my Alienware laptop... then the damned video card over-heated (GeForce fails), and no I don't over-clock anything.

On a further note Xenon, you're the fool who only listened to one person and didn't do research.  Learn to read.

a FX-8150 beats Sandy Bridge easily if you set core affinity settings right

That. Look at this:

Cinebench 11.5 single thread:

FX8150: 1,02
X6 1090T: 1,09
2600k: 1,48
i5 750: 1,10
A8 3850: 0,88
FX8150 with core affinity to 0 and 2: 2,02

I can't believe I made this topic. I still have the shitty processor though.
